This week, we’ll take a look at Katharine Hepburn. Katharine Hepburn (not to be confused with Audrey Hepburn, another classic Hollywood star) was a leading lady of Hollywood for over sixty years. This powerhouse of a starlet was a pro at all genres, killing it in screwball comedy and literary drama alike. She even received four (!!) Academy Awards for Best Actress (a record for any performer).

Hepburn’s independent and rebellious nature inclined her to refuse to conform to society's expectations of women. She was outspoken, assertive, athletic, and rocked pants before it was fashionable for women to do so. She married once, as a young woman, but thereafter lived independently (though she was in a secret 26-year affair with her co-star Spencer Tracy). Her unconventional lifestyle, combined with the moxie-filled characters she brought to the screen, Hepburn gave roots to the "modern woman" in the 20th-century United States.

Fun fact (IMDb): Walked around the studio in her underwear in the early 1930s when the costume department stole her slacks from her dressing room. She refused to put anything else on until they were returned.
